Very interesting! I donโ€™t garden at all, outside of growing flowers in the landscaping around the perimeter of my house, but I do enjoy going to the local farmers market and getting fresh produce on occasion. I think I was scarred by having to weed, the family garden as a child in the heat of the summer, and not particularly liking the vegetables that we produced! ๐Ÿ˜‚

LOL, it's too bad when childhood gardens are a source of bad associations instead of good. I'm pretty heat-tolerant, but I get it. Some tend to their plots only in the early mornings and evenings. It also only works if you grow veg you love to eat, that works for your climate and soil, and that you feel confident you'll grow successfully. Tomatoes and basil are good ones since both suck when you buy them from the store. That said, farmer's markets are fine substitutes!

Now I kind of want a book from you about an actual garden history, showcasing fowl, weeds, compost, and all the perils and pitfalls of gardening without staff.

LOL, you said it! Next week in the chat, I hope you'll contribute to my call for "real life" kitchen gardens (photo + short description). Who knows where else our crowdsourced examples might lead?

I can do that!

I have recently discovered Monty Don Small Gardens on YouTube. Very sweet shows with solid design tips. He always sends the episode gardeners on a field trip for collecting inspiration and the show always ends with a garden party to celebrate the progress

I think I've watched every episode of that show, when it was on PBS? Or Netflix?

They actually included a Midwestern "kitchen" garden? I'm surprised. I've thought about visiting Seed Savers Exchange too; maybe someday.

The only time my kitchen garden is photogenic is in early June, before I start harvesting lettuce. It's downright ugly by autumn.

LOL, same with mine. I only hosted garden tours in June for that reason!
