Lisa, I love the way you write and think and feel! Thank you for all you've written about gardening, and also for your personal insightfulness. I'll be picturing you 'being' more and doing less, and use it as a reminder to myself.
Good luck with all your endeavors! I hope you find the time and inspiration for at least the occasional post here. I'll miss reading about the chickens.
I have enjoyed this little community and will continue to wish you all the best as you go forward! I’m not going anywhere, so I’ll look with anticipation to whatever you decide to share!!!
P.S. I 100% understand the subscriber challenge. I would love to make this writing thing my vocation rather than hobby, but marketing makes me anxious. So, I’ll do it for me and for the ones who like what I publish and keep my day job.
Godspeed. You’ve hit the nail on the head. I think maybe one of the reasons it’s so hard to convert free to paid subscriptions is because many here already have their own publications to promote and since there is so much “free” stuff out there people have gotten used to not having to pay for it ie blogs that now have so many ads that you can’t even find what you’re looking for and YouTube that now has more ads and now we’re even getting ads for things we’ve paid for ie Prime. I think Substack’s hook needs to be more realistic about how difficult this really is because only a small percentage of my reads are coming from Substack, while most of my reads come from what I’ve had to do to promote my work here and on other social media platforms. My take- Substack may be a good place to get read, but may not be a great place to get compensated for your work, in my opinion and personal experience. Also, one of the latest pieces of feedback I got was- I love your writing and what you’re doing, but I just have too many subscriptions to things already.
I remember always hearing that we have a tendency to be human doings rather than human BEINGS. I have learned from my entirety of life that my gifts weren’t for the masses, so now I do em for family and more often just myself. If people like it, ok! If not even better; I wrote what I needed to and felt good. Keep being you!
Yaaaa, if you write for a living, then more writing for a sideline can be a slog. Substack can cause email overwhelm, which people have come to fear. That's causing email aliases to become more popular. Maybe those geniuses can strike a balance that readers can tolerate long term.
Hope to see you around, just for fun, Lisa. Wishing you the best in your health, yard farming and in your primary venture.
I am sorry to see you go. If you end up wanting to socialize with other gardeners, you should check out permies.com it’s a website forum for gardeners, permaculture enthusiasts and kind gentle people. There is no negativity, or politic. They/we are using positive reinforcement to keep it a great place for everyone. I have joined the staff this year, as a volunteer since it’s just that good a site. This is where I write my blog and have for the last 4 years. I am here to try expanding my blog to a broader audience.
As for being sick, I am so sorry. I hope your health improves. I have an autoimmune disease causing among other things nerve degeneration. Hang in there. There are good doctors, and it is possible to get your health back.
I wish you all the best, and hope you see you at permies one day.
Well, shit! I wish I had been as supportive of your work as you have been of mine. Thank you for all your encouragement and feedback Lisa. I will miss your work here and your presence.
Oh Lisa, I'm sorry your venture didn't work out. Fabulous effort. And what a classy sign off. Best wishes for your continued recovery and.... ENJOY your WEEKENDS! XX
I will be sorry to see you go, and I apologise for not putting my hand in my pocket for you. I know how much it takes to produce posts with the hope that they will be read and appreciated. For me, it was never a case of earning an income but for the enjoyment of reliving my travels and art journey, one can afford to do that at my age…😁 Take care of yourself, and enjoy the down time. 🤗
I hear ya, Lisa. I feel much the same way. I've really enjoyed reading your pieces, including this final one, and especially the final paragraph. It's perfect advice for all of us.
Likewise! And thank you. 🙏

Thanks so much for the compliment, Marsha. That means a lot!
Good luck with all your endeavors! I hope you find the time and inspiration for at least the occasional post here. I'll miss reading about the chickens.
Thank you, Lynn!

Thank you, Stephanie!

Sounds smart 😉!

Thank you, Stephanie. You make a good argument.

Oh Lisa! I totally get it! And I will kiss you terribly.
I agree with you wholeheartedly on the slowpacalype and I see what you see
Sigh.
On we all go.
I wish you a full and miraculous recovery. I know it sucks to be battling that autoimmune condition. May you heal. 🙏
Thank you, Liz! I’m happy to say I’ve got to 60-70% recovery. The rest of the way requires lifestyle change.

I’m happy to say I’ve reached 60-70% recovery in my condition. The rest requires a lifestyle change, of which this is a part.
Thank you so much for your participation in this project.
