I grew ginger one winter. It was something like 2-1 growth, but this far north it took a long time. You have quite a bit more winter sun than we do in central Minnesota.
I had what I called the sun room in my Minneapolis house, with abundant east and south facing windows. I grew a banana plant in there, six coffee plants that made abundant berries, and a hybrid clementine that flowered 3 times a year and produced 100+ 1+inch limes-like fruits.
