First, the Freebies
We’re excited to announce we’ll be giving away three paid one-year subscriptions. To be eligible to win, all you need to do is subscribe for free to Brunette Gardens. It’s a Christmas gift to our readers, without whom we’d feel so lonely through all the hard work of homesteading here in the ‘burbs.
Paid subscribers get these added benefits:
Subscriber-only posts and podcasts on niche topics and in-depth takes
A chance to win free stuff (like gardening books) and invitations to in-person events
Access to discussion threads and full archives, plus the ability to comment on posts (anyone can ‘like’ a post)
Founding members also receive a free companion-planting guide
We’ll hold the drawing after Christmas and reach out to the winners with the happy news that we’re upgrading your subscription to paid.
Now, the Sale
If you’d rather not wait for the drawing, you could go ahead and upgrade to paid, at a 20 percent discount, now through the end of the year.
By supporting our work directly, you help ensure we can continue to devote the time and resources to researching, experimenting, and sharing our ‘homestead habitat’ content through written posts with original photography and recorded podcasts. You also allow us to remain independent in our work, only linking to products and services we’ve purchased ourselves and feel confident in recommending.
You might also consider giving a paid subscription as a gift. Are there any gardeners in your life who might find our content helpful?
Finally, Some Housekeeping…
I’ll let you in on a little secret: I don’t like getting a lot of email. While I subscribe to a ton of Substacks, I don’t read them as part of my Gmail inbox. Instead, I use the Substack app for iPhone, which is now also available for those of you who use Android phones. I highly recommend the app.
When you download and start using the app, you’ll see it contains a Chat feature, where you can actually chat with many of your Substack writers in real-time. I’m hoping to see more of you join my chats in the future… It’s fun to share photos and discuss homesteading in a little subscriber-only forum just for us.
Anthony and I want to take this opportunity to thank you for sticking with us through our transition to Substack and our expansion of Brunette Gardens. We know you’ve had to roll with some technical issues and an increase in email, but we hope on balance it’s been worth it!
We’re really excited about the year ahead and the new ideas, voices, and visions we have in store. We’d love to hear from you as well. What would you like to see us tackle (or avoid) in 2023?
